Setting up call forwarding from your existing line

Per-carrier dial codes for conditional forwarding (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Spectrum, Google Voice).

You almost never want unconditional forwarding (every call straight to the AI). What you want is conditional forwarding: only forward calls you don't answer in 4-6 rings. Your existing line rings first; if you pick up, the AI never gets involved.

Verizon (mobile or landline)

  1. 1.Dial *71 followed by your AI number (e.g. *7112164344218)
  2. 2.You'll hear two short beeps — that confirms conditional forwarding is on
  3. 3.To turn off: dial *73

AT&T

  1. 1.Dial *21*<AI number># for all calls, OR *61*<AI number># for no-answer only
  2. 2.Example: *61*12164344218#
  3. 3.To turn off: dial #21# (or #61#)

T-Mobile

  1. 1.Dial **61*<AI number>**30# (waits 30 seconds before forwarding)
  2. 2.To turn off: ##61#

Spectrum / Comcast / Cox landline

  1. 1.Lift the receiver and dial *72
  2. 2.Wait for the tone, then dial your AI number
  3. 3.Let it ring once, then hang up — forwarding is on
  4. 4.To turn off: dial *73

Google Voice

  1. 1.Google Voice → Settings → Calls → Linked numbers → Add your AI number
  2. 2.Toggle 'Forward calls to linked numbers' ON

RingCentral, Vonage, 8x8, Dialpad and other VoIP

Open your VoIP admin console → Phone System or Call Handling → set 'When unanswered after 4 rings, forward to' → enter your AI number → save. Exact menu names vary; search the provider's help for 'unanswered call forwarding' if you can't find it.

Most carriers charge nothing extra for call forwarding, but a few do. Check your bill after the first month if you're not sure.
